It has been 30 anniversary since the original Toy Story movie debuted, launching the animation giant as a major film company and bringing audiences to iconic figures like the cowboy doll (Tom Hanks) and the space ranger (the voice talent), who are now household names.

Coming in 2026, the next chapter is set to arrive. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed this week, providing a glimpse into the plot but leaving viewers curious how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Frightens the Gang

The preview reveals the young girl — who inherited Andy's toys when he grew up — receiving a brand new plaything, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. Bonnie acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.

Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the characters seem to view it as a danger intending to supplant them, which it probably is.

Woody's Return: Mysteries from Toy Story 4

An element the teaser doesn't touch on is what the sheriff is returned with his companions in Bonnie's room. The end of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a fresh journey with Bo Peep (the actress), journeying with a fair and assisting giveaway items locate loving owners.

Surely, the filmmakers will explain the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Witnessing him appear in Bonnie's room without warning is somewhat puzzling, though. It also raises questions whether his partner will have returned with Woody. And what about the stuntman toy (the star)?

Continuity from the Last Installment

At the very least, some aspects are carrying over from the earlier movie. The final act Woody did before setting off for his fresh path was pass his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (the voice actor), leaving her in charge of the toy domain. The clip shows the insignia pinned to her outfit.

Hopefully she is remains the driving force among the toys.
